What are the two main committees that work alongside the Sabbs?

Equalities Committee

The Equalities Committee is made up of students who are from historically marginalised communities. Students are elected on to the Committee. They advocate for students of varying intersectionalities, representing multifaceted identites.

This Committee is not simply a space for single liberation groups to bring their own voices to the table. It is made up of representatives who fall into multiple categories and share intersectional perspectives. 

The Equalities Committee is responsible for: 

  • Promoting intersectional representation and prioritising students' lived experiences
  • Enhancing working together and inclusive decision making regarding EDI
  • Collecting student voices to make informed campaign and policy decisions regarding EDI 
  • Reporting activities to SUmmit

In line with our by-laws, students who make up this committee identify as one or more of the following: 

  • Working class
  • Local / commuting
  • Disabled (including neurodivergent)
  • International
  • Mature (UG over 21 and PG over 25)
  • Parent, guardian or carer
  • Care leaver
  • Person of colour
  • LGBTQ
  • Gender minority

 

Academic Committee

The Academic Committee is made up of students who are from all different learner types at the University. Students are elected on to the Committee. They are dedicated to making sure that all students are represented by the Union and its activites, regardless of how or what they study. Students are elected to represent a single learner type. But, they are encouraged to think about how students' identities play into their education. 

The Academic Committee is responsible for:

  • Promoting academic representation and prioritising students' lived experiences
  • Enhancing collaboration and inclusive decision making regarding academic matters 
  • Collecting student voices to make informed campaign and policy decisions regarding academic matters
  • Reporting activities to SUmmit

In line with our by-laws, students who make up this committee must be fully registered as one of the following: 

  • Undergraduate Rep (x3 Faculty Based - one from each faculty)
  • Postgraduate Taught Rep (x3 Faculty Based - one from each faculty)
  • MRes
  • PhD
  • Online
  • Distance
  • GTA
  • Part-time
  • Presessional
